Earlier this week I talked about our failed attempt at camping because the bugs were so bad. The one night we were there except for a brief time to roast some marshmallows (some things are worth braving bugs for) I hid out in our tent. My two youngest daughters though sat by the fire with their dad. What I didn’t know was that my middle daughter was only wearing her sandals – not her socks and shoes. The bugs knew it though and ate her ankles up.
The next day she scratched so much one of her ankles swelled up and made walking painful. I got out my essential oils book to see if there was anything I could offer her for relief from the itching. There wasn’t a lot but we finally decided to give lavender oil a try. We rubbed several drops into the affected area. She said the relief was immediate. Later when my bug bites were getting itchy I tried it and agree with her. It does have to be reapplied after a few hours but I imagine it would be the same with a drugstore cream as well.
So now in addition to burns and diaper rash I know that lavender helps with bug bites. The boys have refused to use it because of the scent. To be honest, when I first started using lavender I didn’t really like the scent. I’m starting to enjoy it though. It’s supposed to help with allergies and the next time I have an attack I’m going to try some before taking an allergy pill. I’ll let you know how that goes.
I went on YouTube looking for pictures of lavender fields because they are so beautiful. I found this video that combines pictures of lavender and the music from Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”. Sit back, relax and enjoy. Lavender is a relaxing oil and this video is relaxing to watch and listen to.
