I know I haven’t been around for a couple of weeks, but we had such great holidays. One of my sisters and her family were able to come up and visit us for a few days. All the cousins had a blast together.
Then we’ve been busy starting school up again. And this time when we started up school we went back to our copywork after not doing it for a couple of months. I’d forgotten how peaceful I found this time of our school day when we all sit quietly and just write.
Today I tried something that I’ve had in mind to do for a while. I had a baking day. I made a list of things I wanted to make for this week…macaroons, Anything Goes muffins (not pictured), three loaves of bread, two different kinds of muffins and nine dozen molasses cookies. I was hoping to bake a couple of other things but ran out of time. Then as if I hadn’t planned enough I added in three dozen pickled eggs (a favourite snack for my husband) and hummus.
I started making bread at eight this morning. We finished the last of the cookies just before eight tonight. In addition to the baking and cooking, we did school and I managed to get a short nap in the with the baby. The children helped by making lunch and supper. It really does pay to teach your children how to work in the kitchen.
I don’t have a lot of links tonight just a few to hopefully give you something to think about.
I don’t know about you, but I would like my children to remember me as a joyful mother not a tired, yelling, never-time-for-anything mom. This article has some good thoughts.
I have always enjoyed dressing up. Years ago when I flew to visit friends as a young twenty-something I dressed to the nines. It just felt right. When we go to the mall, I always make sure to have something decent on and do the same for any children with me. People think I’m weird enough with eight children. I don’t want them to also think I’m a worn out woman from all of these children. Even going for a hike I make sure we don’t look like we got dressed in the dark.
My daughter recently changed the name of her blog to “Coffee, Classics and Craziness”. I thoroughly enjoyed her most recent post.
What awesome post did you read this week? 🙂
