A couple of months ago I saw an idea that I thought would make a great gift for my mom for Mother’s Day. It’s been a while since I made a gift for my mom that I was really excited about. I filed the idea and then forgot about it until about a week ago when I realized Mother’s Day was earlier this year than I was expecting – panic mode.
So in the midst of a crazy, stressful week I started doing the prep work and buying supplies for this gift.
The first step was to get a picture of each grandchild in a one inch diameter circle. I opened up my digital scrapbooking programme and started a 4×6 picture. I was able to get twelve one-inch circles per page so it took me two pages. I just had to pay the price of getting two pictures printed and then cut out the circles.
I was going to buy one flower pot like the one in my idea picture, but when I went to the dollar store they had a tray with three little flower pots on it. I thought that was perfect since my mom had three girls. I could do one pot per daughter.
I didn’t know what I was going to put around the bottom and finally settled on leaves. I brought it all home and started putting it together.
First of all, I cut my floral foam into thirds. I had to still shave a bit off each to be able to shove it down into the pot. Then I trimmed it off even with the top of the pot.
Next I cut out all of the flowers I would need. I used pink lacy flowers for the girls and plain blue flowers for the boys.
Then I went one family at a time and added the faces to the flowers, the flowers to the skewers, the completed flowers to the pots. I used washi tape to attach the flower to the skewer – it allowed for adjustments
Just before I put the flowers in the pot, I wrote each child’s birthday on the back. Now my mom will have all of the birthdays written out in one place – something she’s always asking for. Here are my baby sister’s children.
Then it was time to add the leaves around the bottom. And then after a few minutes of work I had this…
I am so excited to give this to my mom. I may, in fact, have to give it to her early. Most years I just can’t come up with anything and just give something simple like chocolates. I’m so happy to have something handmade to give her this year – finally.
What are you giving your mom for Mother’s Day?
