Open My Eyes That I May See

I love this song. I often think of it when I’m praying just before I read my Bible. This song always puts me in a prayerful spirit for reading the Bible with a view to learning something.

The Christian life is about surrender. Surrender of ourselves to God’s will for us. Surrender of ourselves to serve others.

Surrender comes best in the quiet. When we step away from the hustle and bustle of life to listen to God, to hear His heart’s cry for us.

This song is a beautiful reminder of how we should yield ourselves to God, and when we come to God with a truly submitted heart He will meet with us and show us all He has for us.

Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me.
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready, my God, Thy will to see.
Open my eyes; illumine me,
Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth Thou sendest clear.
And while the wave notes fall on my ear,
Everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready, my God, Thy will to see.
Open my ears; illumine me,
Spirit divine!

Open my mind, that I may read
More of Thy love in word and deed;
What shall I fear while yet Thou dost lead?
Only for light from Thee I plead.
Silently now I wait for Thee,
Ready my God, Thy will to see,
Open my mind, illumine me,
Spirit divine!

Open my mouth, and let me bear
Gladly the warm truth everywhere.
Open my heart, and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for thee,
Ready, my God, Thy will to see.
Open my heart; illumine me,
Spirit divine!

This IS a beautiful song. I find the last verse interesting that it says, “Open my heart, and let me prepare
Love with Thy children thus to share.” This speaks to me that the author isn’t saying to go out and share the gospel (very necessary) but to prepare ourselves to love the brethren. I think we forget sometimes to do that 🙁 and in loving we must help, pray for and exhort in the Word of God.
Guess that is why church is so important – can’t love the brethren if we are never in church to see them 😉
