Today is our Canadian Thanksgiving! But it feels more like Christmas because we woke up to snow on the ground. It certainly is colder and more snowy where we live now.
This is such a beautiful song that shows us so many things we have to be thankful for. I remember learning this song in school in Grade 3 and have enjoyed it ever since.
I love how this song reminds us to thank God for the things that seem bad to us. It is so important that whether we receive good or evil God is working on our behalf all the time. Job put it so well…
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips. Job 2:10
We cannot always see the good in the bad, but we can always trust that God has a good plan for our life if we allow Him to work His will in us.
Today I am thankful for:
- my children
- the comfort of knowing my husband is in Heaven
- friends visiting us for Thanksgiving
- a wonderful church
- our cat
- a warm house and cupboards full of food
- peace in sorrow
Thanks to God for my Redeemer,
Thanks for all Thou dost provide!
Thanks for times now but a mem’ry,
Thanks for Jesus by my side!
Thanks for pleasant, balmy springtime,
Thanks for dark and stormy fall!
Thanks for tears by now forgotten,
Thanks for peace within my soul!
Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered,
Thanks for what Thou dost deny!
Thanks for storms that I have weathered,
Thanks for all Thou dost supply!
Thanks for pain, and thanks for pleasure,
Thanks for comfort in despair!
Thanks for grace that none can measure,
Thanks for love beyond compare!
Thanks for roses by the wayside,
Thanks for thorns their stems contain!
Thanks for home and thanks for fireside,
Thanks for hope, that sweet refrain!
Thanks for joy and thanks for sorrow,
Thanks for heav’nly peace with Thee!
Thanks for hope in the tomorrow,
Thanks through all eternity!
